What does it mean to serve as EM?

At ICC parish, the Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion help the priest not only in the distribution of the Holy Eucharist during Holy Mass but also with additional training as Sacristans, who perform specific duties, including the preparation of the Holy Eucharist for the celebration of the Mass.  This includes readying the wine, water and bread and putting them in place before the start of Mass. assist the priest in the absence of the altar servers. 

EMs also visit the homebound and go to the hospital once a week to give Holy Communion to those who can not attend Sunday Mass.
